About

Hi. I’m Josh.

I don’t have a degree in electrical engineering or a job in telecom. I had never even heard of amateur radio before I moved out into the middle of no where, joined our local all-volunteer fire brigade, and learned that amateur radio is both a fun and interesting hobby and a massively relevant, super useful tool — especially as our communications infrastructure becomes increasingly computerized, complicated, and prone to failure.

By day I’m a police officer for a major city police department, specializing in traffic collision investigation. The rest of the time, I’m a volunteer firefighter, micro-farmer, dad, and ham radio operator. As a police officer and firefighter, I’m accustomed to using some pretty high-tech, expensive radio systems — and I still see the immense value in average people being licensed and equipped to use amateur radio technology for fun, education, and emergency communications.
